Medical community analyzed that hair loss was less affected by stress

Experts advise “constant management for at least 1 year after surgery”

As the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) is prolonged, sales of all industries in the medical industry are showing a decline. According to the’Consumption Change Report’ published by Hana Financial Management Research Institute, sales of otorhinolaryngology and internal medicine cards in March decreased by 42% and 24%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. This is because patients were concerned about infection and refrained from visiting the hospital as much as possible.

On the other hand, the beauty-related industries showed a tendency to increase sales. In the same report, plastic surgery surged 9% year-on-year. Dermatology also saw a 12% decrease in sales, but visits for cosmetic purposes such as skin care procedures and hair transplantation were similar to or increased from last year.

Kim Jin-oh, director of NHI New Hair Clinic, said, “In the case of hair loss, the stress that the disease exerts on patients is so severe, so it seems that the effect of Corona 19 on the visit to the hospital was not significant.” There are many cases where the burden is reduced as the number of working from home has increased,” he explained.

Treatment of hair loss varies depending on the type. Among the hair loss disorders, androgenic alopecia, which is most commonly diagnosed, is generally treated through drug treatment or hair transplantation. Oral medications or topical coatings are typical for drug therapy, and are recommended for male-pattern hair loss patients at all stages of symptoms from early to severe symptoms.

Autologous hair transplantation is considered when there is no response to oral drugs or when a noticeable effect is desired within a short period of time. Usually, the patient’s occipital hair is collected and transplanted to the hair loss area. The transplanted hair has the property of maintaining its existing properties, so it does not fall out and remains the same as in the existing area. In addition, it is known as the most effective male-type hair loss treatment method as it can produce natural and rich hair after a certain period of time.

In general, the hair is expected to grow immediately when the hair transplant is performed, but in fact, the hair begins to fall out again after about two weeks after the operation. For this reason, many patients suspect the effectiveness of the surgery. Experts say that after a year or so, thicker hair will gradually grow, but you don’t have to worry because you can get natural results. Even after surgery, it is important to continue the drug treatment because hair loss can progress in the ungrafted area.

“Hair transplantation requires sufficient consultation with a specialist before surgery,” said Director Kim. “If you start treatment at the beginning of the hair loss symptoms, even if it is not a hair transplant, drug treatment can be effective enough. “You have to find out and start medical treatment.”
