A procedure called scalp tattoo is being developed worldwide, with the MHT procedure of HisHair Clinic in the UK and the SMP procedure of NHI New Hair in the US serving as a driving force.

Among them, SMP is a procedure developed jointly by NHI New Hair of Korea and the United States, and has developed into a procedure that is more suitable for Asians than MHT in the UK.

According to the NHI New Hair Hair Transplant Center on the 21st, SMP is a method of injecting pigment into the hair loss area or areas with low hair density to make it look like hair. The microneedles used for SMP can achieve the effect of preventing the pigment from deteriorating by finely adjusting the angle and depth to which the pigment is injected.

This equipment can not be used by medical personnel, and it was announced through a one-year clinical trial by NHI in the United States and NHI in Korea. Unlike general scalp tattoos, these special needles are naturally irregular and elaborate.

People suffering from parietal hair loss sometimes get a scalp tattoo at an illegally implemented semi-permanent treatment center due to the stress from the scalp. In addition, you cannot use anesthesia during the procedure, so you have to bear all the pain of the needle piercing for the scalp tattoo.

Plastic surgeon Kim Jin-oh said, “In pigment therapy applied directly to the scalp, it is very important to know the angle and depth of the needle and what pigment is used during the injection stage. Satisfaction is high only when it is possible to maintain the planned appearance as it is,” he explained.

“Since SMP is a procedure performed in a hospital, you can receive the procedure without pain through local anesthesia, and the microneedles and pigments of SMP are injected into the skin stably and naturally without damaging the scalp or surrounding hair follicles, so the satisfaction is high.”

Immediately after the procedure, SMP looks slightly reddish as if it was sunburned, but after about two days, all the redness disappears. Except for the inconvenience of not being able to shampoo for about two days immediately after the procedure, there is no big problem in daily life, and the effect of covering the scalp immediately can be obtained, so the procedure can be performed in a short time.

In the case of women, it is advisable to determine the cause of hair loss before considering SMP before undergoing treatment. Temporary hair loss due to hormonal, thyroid or autoimmune diseases can improve after treatment, so it is better to treat the cause first than to do SMP immediately.

However, if you are thinking about using heukchae because your hair is thin and your scalp is transparent with low hair frequency, SMP can be a good alternative.

He advised, “If you want to perform SMP (scalp tattoo) treatment due to hair loss on the head, it is good to check whether it is a hospital that can perform SMP treatments specialized for scalp tattoos, and whether it is possible to perform treatments with both semi-permanent SMP pigments and permanent SMP pigments,” he advised.
